Hi All!
Wow, I came to this forum after just happening to do a quick YouTube search for Colecovision games, which led me to a fantastic retrospective video about the system and its games, which then gave a shoutout to the podcast - which led me HERE!
I had a Colecovision system in the 80s. It was purchased after the video game crash, because my mom otherwise didn't want to waste the money on a video game system (not even Atari!), so I was the last one among my friends to get any type of system at all - but it was the best at the time, so totally worth the wait! I still remember when we first got it home and fired up Donkey Kong. Holy crap was the quality astounding back then. I think I might have been about 10 years old when we finally got the system (around 1984 or 1985).
I was a big fan of Ladybug and Cosmic Avenger - which we owned at the time, but even back then we could rent games, so I found out then about Zaxxon, which I hated at first, but grew to love, and SMURF, which I always just wanted to buy because I was a huge fan. Soon I met a new friend who also had the system, and learned about PepperII, which was an absolute revelation to me. It's my favorite Coleco game of all time! She also had this really strange disco game that I could never quite figure out, but the music in it was amazing! I'll have to search around here later to find out if anyone else has ever played it!
So that's a quick history of me and my experience with Colecovision. I always loved it, and was never sorry that I got it instead of Atari - which is what everyone else had (especially since we soon got the Gemini, and I could play all those games after that anyway...heheh!). So glad to have found this forum!
